Within food manufacturing, R&D test kitchens must often replicate real production conditions while maintaining clear hygiene controls.
Layouts are planned to support controlled workflows, equipment trials and practical cleaning regimes.
Wall systems, floor finishes and service installations are selected to suit food production environments and to support relevant hygiene requirements, including guidance from the Food Standards Agency and the expectations of schemes such as BRCGS. Ventilation, drainage and service distribution must also be coordinated so that the facility can support both development activity and small-scale production trials.
Where laboratories or controlled testing areas are required, projects may also incorporate cleanroom principles and environmental control systems aligned with the ISO 14644 series for cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. This can include consideration of air quality, filtration, pressure differentials and layout requirements where the testing process demands tighter environmental control.
