Fire Doors and Escape Routes
Fire doors and protected escape routes are a critical part of a building’s fire safety strategy.
They help control the spread of fire and smoke while providing occupants with a protected route to exit the building safely in an emergency.
In non-domestic buildings, these elements must be considered in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant guidance set out in Approved Document B.

Our team reviews building layout, occupancy, operational movement and route protection to help ensure escape provisions are practical, compliant and aligned with the wider fire strategy. Where required, we can reconfigure internal layouts, improve corridor protection, and support upgrades to associated fire safety measures so that escape routes remain effective in use. BS 9999:2017 remains a relevant code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings and can inform this type of assessment.
