Overview & Objectives

Ambrey Baker was appointed to construct the internal and external building fabric at a retail store, with the dual aim of improving hygiene and thermal performance while also delivering a fully fire-rated external envelope system.

Key objectives included:

  • Installing food-safe insulated walling internally to support hygiene compliance and internal climate control.

  • Upgrading the external envelope with  fire-rated insulation to meet 4-hour fire resistance standards.

Scope of Work

 Internal Walling

  • Supply and install insulated composite panels to internal wall areas, creating hygienic, easy-clean surfaces.

  • Line internal steelwork and masonry to improve insulation and airtightness.

  • All finishes applied to food-safe standards, suitable for chilled storage and back-of-house areas.

External Envelope (Fire-Rated)

  • Design and installation of a new external insulated panel system using  composite panels.

  • Achieved 4-hour fire rating across the full envelope in accordance with fire safety compliance requirements.

  • Precision detailing around roller doors, personnel access points, and mechanical interfaces.

 Access & Phasing

  • Works completed using MEWPs, scissor lifts, and mobile towers for safe access.

Outcomes

Ambrey Baker delivered a fast-track envelope and internal install that supports food safety, energy efficiency, and fire compliance for this live Sainsbury’s store. The result is a safe, thermally stable retail environment.
